The forest industry in Northwestern Ontario isn’t dead, just dormant.
That’s the feeling of Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff, who paid a quick visit to Kenora Thursday night.
Ignatieff says there is a future in the forest products industry, but it will require investment in research and development of new products.
He notes investing in training opportunities for local residents and aboriginal students is also going to be key in getting this region out of its economic slump.
