A new tradition will begin Friday at Migisi Sahgaigan of Eagle Lake First Nation.
Staff and students will host their first ever school powpow, with area schools invited to attend.
Roxanne Martin is one of the organizers and she says the event is aimed at recognizing their culture and honouring the spirits.
Martin adds the powpow will allow students to be more expressive through dance as well as be more interactive with their peers and family members.
She points out that this has been a student-led initiative that has taught valuable leadership skills.
