Still no reported movement on the planned twinning of Highway 17 between Kenora and the Manitoba boundary.
The former Harper government announced funding for the project seven years ago, but frosty relations with the provincial Liberals stalled efforts to move forward.
Ontario Minister of Northern Development and Mines Michael Gravelle isn’t committing to a specific timeline but says the government still sees it as a priority.
Gravelle says he’s working closely with the Minister of Transportation and other partners.
He adds they have a new relationship with the Federal government and he’s keen to have discussions on the four laning of the highway and other local projects.
Kenora MP Bob Nault has stressed that moving the project forward is on top of his priority list.
Shoal Lake 40 stressed they wouldn’t support the project unless they received guarantees of an all-weather road.
Funding for the Freedom Road has now been secured.
