Minister to introduce map staking

The Minister of Northern Development and Mines is defending plans to introduce map-staking in the new Mining Act.
Some people have argued that map staking would allow environmental groups to stake claim to large sections of Northern Ontario, and make them unavailable for exploration work.
Michael Gravelle says map-staking is used in most jurisdictions in the world and they are just trying modernize the mining industry in the province.
Starting in the new year, the province will be holding a new round of consultations on the recently passed Mining Act.
