You can’t help but smile after reading this story.
Northern Critters In Need contacted the CKDR newsroom about a cat that was found abut 60km east of Ignace.
“Uncle Kitty” as he is called, was picked up by Jeff Ponton and brought to Northern Critters in Ignace.
Vice President Tanya Hazelaar says the cat has been neutered, litter box trained and was super friendly. However, he appeared to have an eye infection and a small infection in his cheek.
The cat was taken to the vet, and it was discovered that he had a microchip.
Hazelaar says there were two numbers associated with the chip, both in Alberta. The first one wasn’t in service and the other one reached a local business that didn’t know anything about the cat.
Photos and information about “Uncle Kitty” were posted on Facebook, Pinterest, Kijiji and more.
Hazelaar says they came across a person on Facebook and had messaged them in hopes of finding out who the cat’s owner is.
Turns out the man’s sister-in-law owned the cat, whose actual name is “Fester”. Northern Critters contacted her and she was so happy that her little guy was found.
Apparently, her family was traveling from Alberta to southern Ontario and brought Fester along. The cat had jumped out when they stopped at a rest stop, and the family couldn’t find him.
The owner is going to reimburse Northern Critters for all of the money spent on his care, and is paying for his flight home next week.
Hazelaar reminds all pet owners about the importance of microchipping your pet, and updating the information if you move.
