Mixed Results In Latest EQAO Testing

Ontario’s elementary students are getting better at reading, but they continue to struggle at math.

The latest test results from the Education Quality Accountability Office show the number of grade 3 and grade 6 students meeting the standards for reading has improved since 2014.

Of students who wrote tests back in the spring, 75% of grade 3 students met the standard, a 4% increase.

There was a 3% improvement among grade 6 students with 82% meeting the standards in the 2018 testing.

In math, 61% of grade 3’s met the standard this year, a 6% decrease from 2014.

The number of grade 6 students meeting math standards fell 5% to 49%

At the secondary level, 84% of Grade 9 students met the standard in the academic course and 45% in the applied course.

The results for specific schools and school boards will be released later in September.
