The president of the Metis Nation of Ontario says the federal government now has new repsonsibilities when it comes to Metis people.
A federal court ruled this week that off-reserve Metis fall under federal jurisdication.
MNO President Gary Lipinski says the 13-year court case is similar to a previous case by the Inuit people.
Lipinski says some of the new responsibilities include health care, education, and land claims.
Lipinski cautions that the government may still appeal the decision to a higher court.
