MNR Continues To Monitor Regional Fires And Help Western Provinces

While the western provinces continue to burn up, northwestern Ontario is sitting in fairly good shape on the forest fire front.

There are 53 active fires, most of them in the northern sectors of the region.

The Ministry of Natural Resources says 44 are being observed and nine are now under control.

The MNR is scaling down operations in the Muskrat Dam complex fires in the Sioux Lookout area as crews have made great progress.

Meantime, a total of 219 Ministry of Natural Resources fire personnel are now out of province.

84 are now stationed in the Northwest Territories, 80 are in Alberta and 51 are in Saskatchewan.

The MNR is also providing support to Manitoba and the Yukon.

There are also seven aviation personnel in Alberta to provide air attack with two CL-415 heavy water bombers and one bird dog aircraft.

The MNR has also sent fire hose, sprinkler kits, pumps and chainsaws to areas in need.
