MNR Minister in Thunder Bay

Linda Jeffery knows it’s not an easy sell.

The province’s Natural Resources Minister says getting First Nations to buy into the Far North Act is a challenge.

However she says there are some native leaders who do like the new act and hopes other will come around.

Jeffery tried to sell the act to First Nations leaders at the Nishnawbe Aski Nation economic summit in the city.

Meanwhile, the Minister doesn’t give any indication she’s willing to budge on the issue of increase land permit fees.

Some outfitters say they’re fees have shot up 700 per cent, but Jeffery indicates it’s a done deal with the Outfitters Association

Jeffery doesn’t believe the fee increase will cause some fishing lodges to close as the outfitters claim.
