A new tool is being tested to detect wildfires in Northwestern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is using the camera-based system on two towers, including one in Atikokan.
The semi-automated system scans the landscape and recognizes potential fires.
Once a potential fire is identified, the system alerts an operator to confirm whether the blaze is real.
The project is set to wrap-up October 31st.
