The Ministry of Natural Resources is taking advantage of the slow fire season to begin preparing for winter.
Information Officer Deb McLean says they’re starting to shut down what they call ‘forward attack bases’.
McLean says that involves emptying fuel tanks and removing some equipment.
She notes personnel levels in the Northwest will soon be reduced.
Normally there are more than 700 fires in the Northwest.
This year there have been about 200.
The fire season officially ends on October 31st.
