MNR Reacts to Abitibi Announcement

The Ministry of Natural Resources is offering its regrets in the wake
of another round of layoffs in Northwestern Ontario.
Abitibi-Consolidated has announced some 200 job losses effective
Ooctober at the newsprint mill in Kenora.
Ministry Spokesperson Ginette Albert says the Government is trying to
work with local industry leaders to find solutions to the current crisis including the possibility of Co-Generation Plants.
Albert adds they are reviewing all of the recommendations contained
in the Council Report on Forestry.
The state of the forest sector and local economies will be the focus
when Municipal leaders meet with Government reps next month in Toronto.
