An even mix of lightning and human caused fires in northwestern Ontario this summer.
The Ministry of Natural Resources is reporting 352-fires this season, with nearly 34,000 hectares of land burned.
That’s up from 303-fires in 2014.
Information Officer Jonathan Scott says 163 of the fires were caused by people.
Scott says the southern sectors of the region were active early on but things calmed down for most of the summer.
The hazard was high to extreme in the Far North for most of the summer.
The MNR was busy outside Ontario.
Scott notes nearly 1,100 Ontario fire rangers and support staff spent a combined total of almost 18,000 days out of province.
He adds the MNR also completed three successful Prescribed Burns encompassing more than 34-hundred hectares of land.
Province-wide, there were 666 fires, with more than 39,000 hectares of land consumed.
