The Ministry of Natural Resources is taking steps to
control the Jack Pine Budworm infestation in Kenora,
Dryden and Fort Frances Districts.
Spraying will begin in June, and Senior Forestry
Specialist Mike Dawe says they’re focussing on three key
areas in the Kenora District.

In 2005-2006, the insect caused the defoliation of 450-
thousand hectares of Jack Pine forest in Northwestern
Ontario.
Dawe notes the insecticide has been used in previous
years, and is not harmful to humans.
