MNR To Crack Down On Anglers

Expect increased enforcement on area lakes this long weekend.

The fishing season has arrived to northwestern Ontario, which means conservation officers are making the rounds making sure anglers follow the rules.

Bryan Merritt with the Ministry of Natural Resources says they’ll be cracking down to stop the spread of invasive species, which happens when boats transfer aquatic plants from one lake to another.

He adds they’ll also pay attention to the size and legal number of fish you can catch and keep, and whether or not boats have common sense items, including rope, an anchor and paddles.
