The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry calls it a heinous crime that must stop.
There are growing concerns with the discovery of three spoiled moose in October in the Ear Falls and Sioux Lookout districts.
Conservation Officer Mike Evers says he’s disappointed every time he walks up to a moose that has been shot and abandoned.
Evers stresses leaving a moose to spoil shows a complete disrespect towards the animal, hunters and those who enjoy moose in the wild.
Evers says they have stepped up enforcement in the Ear Falls district, but stresses they heavily rely on tips from the public.
He notes someone out there knows the story, even it’s second or third hand information.
You can call the MNRF Tips Line: 1-877-847-7667, or Crime Stoppers: 1-800-222-8477.
Fines for convictions range from $25,000 to $100,000, plus possible jail time, seizure of vehicles and equipment and the suspension of your hunters licence.
