Resolute Forest Products is celebrating what it calls a ground-breaking Memorandum of Understanding with six First Nations in Northwestern Ontario.
The forestry giant says the agreement underscores the commitment of both Resolute and its operating communities to work together to create jobs and economic opportunity in the region.
The company says the MOA has already resulted in 1$00-million in new business for the six First Nations communities.
Resolute says the deal has yielded contracts for construction at Resolute sawmills, transportation for hauling chips, biomass and lumber, yard services as well as log harvesting and delivery.
Seine River Chief Earl Klyne says the agreement reflects a balanced approach to sustainability, supports environmental goals and meets social and economic goals of the region.
The participating communities include Couchiching, Seine River, Nigigoonsiminikaaning, Mitaanjigamiing, Lac Ca Croix and Lac des Milles Lacs
