Protesters are mourning what they call the untimely passing of the Experimental Lakes area, west of Dryden.
A mock funeral procession was held in Ottawa today and a so-called vigil took place in Winnipeg.
Organizer Diane Orihel says the decision to close the ELA doesn’t make sense.
She says the Government invests about $2-million a year to operate the renowned research facility and notes it will cost much more to close it.
Orihel says the closure has been the topic of discussion in the United States, the U.K. and here at home.
She notes it’s a blackmark on our country and stresses “it’s time the Conservatives wake up to that fact.”
