OPP Forensic Constable Mark Sharpe was called to the
stand yesterday at the Bruce Montague criminal trial.
Sharpe was responsible for video taping and documenting
the Montague residence, as well as handling and disposing
of explosives.
The Crown witness played his video tape of the secret
room in the Montague home.
Defense Lawyer Doug Christie noted there is a 20 minute
gap between an officer entering the secret room to take
photographs, and Sharpe actually entering at a later time
to video tape.
Christie was also concerned with the fact that the OPP
did not record the door to the hidden room being opened.
Officers re-enacted the door opening to show how they
accessed the room.
Sharpe told the jury he didn’t record the initial entry
because they didn’t know if the room would be safe.
Christie repeatedly asked Sharpe questions about whether
or not anything was moved in the hidden room.
The trial of the former Dryden gunsmith is expected to
continue into next week.
