More Delays In Legalization Of Pot

It is looking like there could be more delays for the legalization of recreational cannabis in Canada.

The Senate has made 46 amendments to Bill C-45.

Health Minister Ginette Petitpas-Taylor says they have “respectfully disagreed” with 13 of them.

One major sticking point is an attempt by the Senate to give the provinces and territories the power to ban home-grown marijuana.

Petitpas-Taylor says Canadians are permitted to make beer, and wine at home and also grow tobacco and medical cannabis.

She says they believe the legislation should be consistent in this respect.

The legalization of marijuana was originally expected to be passed by July 1st, but this will now depend on the Senate’s response.

Once the bill passes, Petitpas-Taylor has said it will still take another eight to twelve weeks before pot can be sold
