More Fires Spark In Region; Fire Personnel Coming Home

It was a busy weekend for Ministry of Natural Resources fire crews.

25 new fires sparked across the region over a two day stretch.

Most of the fires are in the far north.

Reconnaissance flights are planned Monday to observe the fires and determine if they are threatening any property.

One fire of note is burning at the north end of Wrist Lake in Woodland Caribou Park and is currently 130-hectares in size.

The MNR says visitors and canoeists planning to travel in the park should check with park officials about fire locations.

Meantime, a homecoming for a large group of Ontario fire fighters as personnel are scheduled to return from Alberta Monday.

The MNR has been providing support to the western province for several weeks now.

There are still 44-personnel in the Northwest Territories.

The fire hazard is low in the southern portion of northwestern Ontario and moderate in the north.

The MNR says its made great progress on all recent fires.
