Dryden Police Chief Rob Davis agrees the government needs to step up funding for the mentally ill.
Davis says they can provide a short “band-aid” solution but they aren’t trained to offer psychological help.
The issue was one of the many brought up by the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and Davis says he hopes the government listens.
He adds police in Ontario have felt the crunch ever since the psychiatric institutions were downsized over a decade ago.
