More MNR Help For Western Canada

The Ministry of Natural Resources is providing more support to western Canada.

70-fire personnel, 2 CL-415 water bombers and a Birddog aircraft were sent to B.C. Tuesday.

The MNR already has 231-staff in Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Northwest Territories, Manitoba and the Yukon.

There are 48-active fires in northwestern Ontario, none considered serious.

There were no new fires reported Tuesday and the forest fire hazard is low to moderate in this region.

In Saskatchewan, it’s being dubbed the biggest evacuation effort in Saskatchewan’s history, Premier Brad Wall says the number of evacuees affected by raging wildfires in the province’s northern regions is “unprecedented.”

The Red Cross says more than 13,000 people have been forced from their homes.

At least four communities are directly threatened by the flames and several roads have been closed.

The Canadian Military is just finishing training and is expected to fully join the fight Wednesday.
