A U.S. based environmental group plans to stage several blockades in
and around Grassy Narrows First Nation.
The Rainforest Action Network held 2-protests last month over clear
cutting on traditional land and vows more demonstrations.
Minister of Natural Resources David Ramsay says he’s not surprised by
the group’s actions but notes the Government is trying to negotiate a deal.
Ramsay says the Liberals continue to work with Grassy Narrows First
Nation Weyerhaeuser and Abitibi-Consolidated.
He says he’s making it mandatory by 2007 for forest companies to
become certified as environmentally safe.
More Protests Planned
