More Reaction To Federal Election Call

To no one’s surprise, Prime Minister Harper has called a federal election for October 19th, saying the economy is his number one priority.

Stephen Harper says Canadians will make a “serious choice of proven real-world experience and a dangerous approach that has failed before and is failing in other countries.

Harper notes their budget is balanced and the economy and the employment rate has grown steadily over the last six years.

He adds social programming has been preserved and tax breaks have been introduced to everyday Canadians.

Federal NDP leader Tom Mulcair says people are ready for change.

He says Stephen Harper has the worst economic growth record of any Prime Minister since 1960.

Mulcair says wages are falling and middle income families can’t get ahead.

He charges Canada has lost hundreds of thousands of manufacturing jobs while Harper sits on the sidelines.

The 11 week campaign will be the longest since 1926 which has elicited some criticism.

Former Chief Electoral Officer Jean-Pierre Kingsley estimates it will wind up costing $50-million.
