The Minister for Children and Youth Services has introduced the new Ontario Autism Program to overhaul services for children and youth with autism.
The initiative will start rolling out on June 26th and will be fully implemented by the end of the year.
Michael Coteau says the plan will reduce wait times for therapy and services, and make it easier for families to get those services.
Coteau adds programs and therapy will be customized for each family based on the child’s needs.
He stresses the services will be available to eligible families, regardless of how much support and time they require.
Coteau says the program is for all youth with an autism diagnosis under the age of 18.
Coteau adds he’s working with the Ministry of Health to introduce regulations for those who provide certain kinds of therapy for children with autism.
