Most wildfires in northwestern Ontario now under control

Most wildfires across northwestern Ontario are now under control or fully extinguished, according to the Forest Fire Info Map.

Near Lake Nipigon, a cluster of five fires was reported burning yesterday. Three of those fires have since been put out, though one remains listed as out of control.

In the Thunder Bay area, two fires are being held, while another is listed as contained.

Further north, near the Red Lake district, one wildfire is still considered out of control.

Officials say the overall risk of new fires across the region is currently low to moderate as a heat wave moves east toward Toronto.
