MP Reacts To End Of Katimavik Program

A young member of parliment is taking a stand for youth across Canada.
The Katimavik Program, which provides opportunities for youth aged 17-21 to volunteer and gain working experience in different organizations, was recently cut by the federal government.
Quebec MP Charmaine Borg was in Sioux Lookout on the weekend to solicit local support.
Borg says the feds cut funding instantly and 600-kids were left out in the cold this summer.
She notes there was no warning.
Borg has started a petition to keep the program running, which already has over 7,000 signatures.
She stresses she’s seen the direct benefits of the initiative.
Allison Wight attended the program in January and is also very upset with the government’s decision.
Wight says there’s no better investment for our youth and stresses they are our future.
She says it taught her about aboriginal culture and history and made an impact on her life.
Borg will be holding a debate with the government on September 18th in Ottawa.
