Municipal Association Slams Energy Plan

A regional lobby group has plenty of complaints about the province’s energy plan for the next 20 years.

Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association President Wendy Landry says there’s nothing for our region in the recently-released Long Term Energy Plan.

She claims the Energy Minister publicly indicated the Thunder Bay and Atikokan generating stations would be a big part of the plan, but they’re not mentioned in the document.

“The long-term energy plan must include the transmission lines to the other part of our corridoor as well, and we need to have the generating stations up and running,” she notes, “We need companies and mining industries to know, and have confidence, that the energy will be available to them.”

Landry believes that the lack of new fuel contracts for the generating stations will discourage mining companies from investing in our region. (File Photo)
