Municipal Share For Long Term Care Homes Going Up

Municipalities are going to have to pay a bit more to support long term care facilities in Dryden, Red Lake and Kenora.

The Kenora District Homes for the Aged is passing on a 2% increase for 2018.

Chief Administrative Officer Kevin Queen says a 2% hike is as high as they will go even though their costs are increasing faster than that figure.

Overall, the levy hike will mean about $78,000 more for the Kenora District Homes For the Aged.

Queen is suggesting that unincorporated areas pay their fair share.

Queen says we have the largest unincorporated portion of land in the province, but the government doesn’t recognize that in funding formulas.

He notes up until 2010, the unincorporated areas used to contribute to long term care homes in the three communities.
