The Nishnawbe Aski Nation continues to call for an inquiry into murdered and missing aboriginal women.
The Special Committee on Violence Against Indigenous Women came out with a report called, “Invisible Women: A Call to Action”
The report has 16 recommendations, none of which recommend the federal government hold a public inquiry.
NAN Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says it’s shameful that the Government of Canada is choosing the status quo over a commitment to meaningful action.
Fiddler says the Prime Minister is mistaken if he thinks he will allow the government to hide behind reports that essentially say everything is fine as is when it’s not.
The homicide rate for indigenous women and girls is higher than all other women in Canada.
