The Nishnawbe Aski Nation feels the federal budget will be a first step in helping children in the welfare system.
Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler points to the $1.4-billion for child welfare that will help keep families together and focus on prevention of taking children away.
Fiddler is also encouraged by $235-million that’s been set aside for health transformation in Indigenous communities, and more mental health and emotional support for families who were impacted by the Indian Residential School system.
