For the first time in 12 years, the Nishnawbe Aski Nation has a new grand chief.
Harvey Yesno posted a 22-21 vote victory over deputy grand chief Terry Waboose during voting in Kashechewan First Nation yesterday.
Yesno had been the top candidate on all three ballots.
The vote comes two months after Stan Beardy vacated the spot after being elected Ontario’s Regional Chief.
Yesno is a former NAN deputy grand chief who was working for the Nishnawbe-Aski Development Fund.
The race featured seven candidates.
