The Nishnawbe Aski Nation has launched a new Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder website.
The interactive website provides information to better support women, children, families and caregivers who are affected by FASD.
Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says it’s only one component of a broader approach that needs to be addressed at the provincial level.
He says NAN has advocated for years for a strategy and targeted mandate for FASD prevention, intervention and support.
Fiddler says they have been working with the Ministry of Children and Youth Services to improve the experiences and outcomes for individuals affected by FASD.
He says remote First Nations lack access to vital services impacting the disease and stresses they need assessment, diagnostic and support services.
