The Nishnawbe Aski Nation is slamming the feds for not stepping up.
Grand Chief Harvey Yesno says he’s urging the government to meet the infrastructure needs of many First Nations.
He says Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt is only rehashing decade-old funding commitments to assist Shoal Lake.
The community remains cut off from the mainland and is under a 17-year-old boil water advisory.
But Yesno says these problems are not unique to Shoal Lake, and a firm investment in road access and drinking water is needed across much of the NAN territory.
