Members of the Nishnawbe-Aski Nation are turning to First Nation youth
to develop suicide prevention strategies.
Teens from over 49-First Nation communities in the Northwest are taking
part in a week-long conference in Thunder Bay.
Deputy Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says the gathering brings everyone
together to talk about the problem, find solutions and focus on lost
culture.
Fiddler notes the reality is that poor communities in the North aren’t
able to properly protect themselves from the effects of suicide.
There were 25 youth suicides on NAN territory last year.
