First Nations in Northwestern Ontario are speaking out against the proposed harmonized sales tax.
Nishnawbe-Aski Nation Grand Chief Stan Beardy says the new tax won’t give his people what’s called “point of sale” exemption.
First Nations people will instead have to send in receipts for reimbursement at the end of the year.
Beardy says that poses a huge problem because most of his people can’t read, write or even speak English.
