Nishnawbe Aski Nation officials and the parents of Max Kakegamic say they’re disappointed there won’t be an inquest into the man’s death.
The North Spirit Lake First Nation man was killed on the streets of Kenora in October of 2000.
When the case went to trial in January 2004, charges against the only suspect were stayed because of irregularities in the investigation.
In denying an inquest, Chief Coroner Dr. Barry McLellan says he didn’t feel a jury would be in a position to make recommendations that would help avoid a death in similar circumstances.
