NAN Upset With Education Cuts

Indigenous leaders aren’t happy with cuts to education focusing on the Residential School System.

The province cancelled workshops to update the curriculum on Residential Schools, which were supposed to start this week.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Deputy Grand Chief Derek Fox says teaching students about the history of Residential Schools is part of the calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, adding he’s deeply concerned it’s being dropped.

NAN claims the cuts indicate the province isn’t prioritizing improving its relationship with Indigenous people.

Officials call the latest development a step backwards.
