National Geographic Wants To Promote Area

Communities and organizations are being asked to help fund a tourism marketing initiative that would involve the National Geographic Society.
The Society wants to work with the Heart of the Continent partnership in promoting the area between Fort Frances-International Falls, Thunder Bay and Duluth.
Committee Chair Frank Jewell says the society sees the border lakes region as one of the world’s jewels, and that it’s a remarkable place that’s unnoticed by many people.
Jewell says they it will provide a national Geographic map that defines the area and a website.
Heart of the Continent is now seeking the 256-thousand dollars needed to launch the project. Atikokan, International Falls, Koochiching County and Thunder Bay have committed to contributing money.
