The Dryden Police Service is out with some reminders about car seats for children.
Inspector Kevin Glenister says it’s important to make sure you have the right one for your child’s size, and that they’re installed properly. Glenister says the reason for the forward and backward facing car seats is because babies and very small children don’t have control of their heads, so in the event of a crash, the child’s head won’t be lunged forward.
The fine for improper use of a child seat is $240, the same as not wearing a seat belt.
When purchasing a child seat, Glenister recommends buying them brand new. In the event that the child seat is cracked or damaged, Glenister says it’s best to purchase a new one even if the original seat looks in good condition.
For more information on child seats or for help installing them, contact the Dryden Police at 223-3281 or the Northwestern Health Unit.
