Nipigon Mayor Richard Harvey is elated the House of Commons has passed a bill which will create a National Marine Conservation Area on the north shore of Lake Superior.
Harvey says he was confident the bill wouldn’t die before the end of the parliamentary session.
He says now the real work begins.
Harvey says they can now start work on the detailed plan and infrastructure.
He notes $20-million has been set aside for the project.
Harvey says the move clears the way to look at establishing an Administrative Headquarters, an Interpretive Centre and creating a “visitor experience”.
The bill still requires approval of the Senate.
He says they continue to work closely with Parks Canada.
