NOMA Continues Attack On Environmental Groups

Area mayors continue to put up a fight against environmental groups who they say are determined to hurt the forest industry with their misinformation.

One of the myths the Northwestern Ontario Municipal Association is addressing is that logging hurts the woodland caribou habitat.

President Dave Canfield says that’s simply not true.

Canfield notes the population could be impacted by fires, blow-down or bud kill and notes that will force caribou to leave the area.

He notes most caribou in the north are in areas where clear-cutting isn’t even taking place and notes one biologist told him caribou aren’t in danger and the population continues to thrive.

Canfield is also firing back that forestry isn’t a green industry, stating it’s a renewable resource.
