Native Leaders React to Energy Plan

Ontario and Manitoba plan to move forward with a detailed study on the multi-billion dollar Conawapa Dam project that would probably bring-in 1,400 megawatts of clean, renewable electricity.
There is no indication what route the transmission line would take through Northwestern Ontario.
Muskrat Dam Chief Frank Beardy says 3 routes were being looked at, 1 affecting several Far North communities.
Beardy says they want a decision soon in order to set up training mechanisms that would allow Aboriginals to be directly involved with the project.
He notes regional leaders will continue to ensure the project benefits the North.
Beardy says the final path must create permanent roads, cheap electricity, new jobs and training.
