Natural Resources Minister Greg Rickford is surprised and disappointed with Opposition reaction to the passing of the Common Sense Firearms Act.
Rickford says the Bill was approved earlier this week, despite receiving no support from the other parties.
Rickford is singling out Thunder Bay-Rainy River MP John Rafferty who failed to vote in favour of the Act.
The Kenora MP says Rafferty’s decision reflects his inability to understand how important firearms issues are to law-abiding gun owners.
Rickford notes the New Democrat member didn’t support the changes to the Criminal Code, but voted to get rid of the long gun registry.
He’s also voicing frustration with the leaders of the opposition.
Rickford says Liberal leader Justin Trudeau has stated he would vote tomorrow to once again keep the long gun registry.
He adds NDP Thomas Mulcair has stated they will introduce a system that tracks long guns.
Rickford points out that’s the exact same thing as bringing back the registry.
