The Province’s Minister of Natural Resources is promising to help
Northwestern Ontario communities get through tough times in the forest
industry.
Donna Cansfield admits the forestry sector is in a transition phase and is facing challenging times around the world.
Cansfield says the government is currently looking at co-generation
and alternative fuel opportunities to help mills lower energy costs.
She says news of 125-layoffs at the Dryden Domtar Mill is hard to take
but notes she will work closely with the community to help it adjust.
Cansfield says she has met with all stakeholders since becoming
Minister to determine the best course of action to help the embattled
sector.
