Kenora-Rainy River MP Bob Nault says he is not discouraged by native groups who oppose changes to the Indian Act.
The Indian Affairs Minister tabled a new Indian Act before Parliament last week.
Nault says aboriginal people will now have a chance to study the legislation before it is expected to pass second and third reading this fall.
Before that happens, he adds the bill will go before a parliamentary committee and changes may be made if necessary.
