NDP Demanding Action To Fix Kashechewan School

Concern is being raised about conditions at the Kashechewan First Nation school.

The community has closed the school because of health concerns and a state of emergency has been issued.

NDP MPP Guy Bourgouin says he toured the community and witnessed the conditions first-hand, stressing the kids can’t afford to lose a whole school year.

Bourgouin notes the school is plagued with mold, chronic water damage and broken fire alarms, among other things.

He adds children are getting lung infections and pneumonia.

Bourgouin is pleading with the PC government to turn its attention away from the controversial Toronto City Council size issue and refocus it on conditions in the north.

He questioned in Queen’s Park “does the Premier believe tramping on the charter of rights of Torontonians is more urgent than making sure the children of Kashechewan have a safe school to attend”.
