The new Ford government continues to find cost savings.
The Ministry of Education has cancelled a $100-million fund earmarked for school repairs.
Three Summer teacher workshops have also been axed, including a session to update the curriculum to include more Indigenous content.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board had identified school renewal as well as more Indigenous learning in the classroom as their priorities.
The provincial NDP are speaking out against the decision to stop funding for facility upgrades.
MPP-elect Peggy Sattler says “it’s absolutely disgusting that our children’s classrooms is one of the first places Doug Ford’s axe is falling. Ontario’s students need more opportunity and resources, not less.”
Sattler adds that kids will be wearing their coat and mittens in the classroom when winter rolls around.
