The provincial government needs to invest more into social housing if it wants to address the homelessness issue in our communities.
That’s the feeling of NDP leader Andrea Horwath.
Horwath says homeless shelters aren’t serving their purpose in northwestern Ontario.
Speaking in Kenora, she stated that emergency shelters are not supposed to provide affordable housing for the homeless and says there’s a problem when people are staying at places for more than a month at a time.
Horwath says a more comprehensive housing strategy is needed in Ontario, and that includes the construction of more affordable housing units.
